Fourth Grade

It was fantastic to be back with fourth grade!  We watched and talked about a powerpoint with the rules and procedures for the school year.  We wrote our names on our portfolios.  We will keep our work at school, and it will come home at the end of the year.  We also designed a quarter of a circle.  Everyone in the school will be included in our circle mural.  I cannot wait for you to see their creativity!

Second Grade

Second grade was so excited to be back in the art room.  Many said they remembered me from last year.  I love their honesty and innocence!  We talked and viewed a powerpoint with the rules and procedures for the new year.  We wrote our names on the portfolios we will use this year. These will come home at the end of the year like last year.  Everyone added their design to a quarter of a circle.  These will be joined together for a school wide circle mural.  I love their creativity!

Fifth Grade

I love seeing familiar faces when they come back to the art room!  We viewed a powerpoint with the rules and the procedures for the new year.  Everyone wrote their names on their portfolios.  These will come home with all of their artwork at the end of the school year.  We also decorated 1/4 of a circle for a circle mural.  Everyone that comes to art will contribute to our circle mural.  Watch for it!

Third Grade

I am so happy to be back with your children for art.  Today we talked about the rules and procedures in the art room.  I have changed some procedures to help things run more smoothly.  It is important for them to know what we are doing and how we are doing things.  We wrote our names on our portfolios to keep our artwork in for the school year.  We also made a design to be added to a mural.  They were given a piece of paper with 1/4 of a circle on it.  These will be used to make a full circle and then be added to a mural.  Grades 1-6 will also be adding to this project.  Yeah!!!

First Grade

Today was our first day back in the art room.  Some of the children have been to art before and some have not.  We spent some time talking about the rules and procedures in the art room.  This will help the year go smoothly.  We also wrote our names on our portfolios.  These will be kept at school in the art room.  They will come home at the end of the school year with all of our projects.  Even though we only have 30 minutes together, we were able to do a small project.  The children were able to make a design on 1/4 of a circle.  These will be joined together to make a full circle.  Then the circles will be used to make a mural.  Watch for the results in a few weeks!

Kindergarten - September 19, 2012

I love kindergarten!  I love their curiosity and their zest for life.  It was such a treat for me to be with them today.  We are going to have a great school year together.  Before I had my family, I taught kindergarten, and I love being with children this age.  I quit teaching kindergarten 17 years ago to have my son who is now taller than me, and he is a senior at Jordan High School.  It thrills me to be with kindergarten children again.

Today we learned about the procedures in the art room.  It is necessary to do this to begin the year correctly.  We only have 20 minutes together, but we did squeeze in one quick project.  We drew an alligator by putting different shapes together.  I loved their enthusiasm and their creativity.  I will be posting some pictures in the near future.

Welcome Back!

September 19, 2012

I am so excited to be back in art class again!  It makes me happy to be with the children and begin a new year for art.  We are going to work hard and learn a lot in art!  I will be posting what we do each week.  I will also be posting finished projects throughout the year.  I hope you will enjoy and celebrate the fabulous artwork we do each week.  This year we will again have portfolios to keep all of our work together.  They will come home at the end of the school year.  Enjoy!

Clay

We have been working on our clay.  The children have asked many times what kind of clay we have used and where to get it!!  It is Crayola Model Magic.  It can be found at places like Walmart or Shopko and maybe at craft stores such as Hobby Lobby or Michael's.

This clay is fantastic because:
1.  It doesn't stick to things, and it feels good.  It is very lightweight.
2.  It can air dry in about 24 hours.
3.  It can be painted with tempera or watercolor paints.  You can also use magic marker on it.

In art, we used all white clay, but it comes in many colors.

If you choose to get some, happy creating!!
